The Magic Tarot by Frederic Lionel is a unique interpretation of the traditional Tarot Major Arcana.
It comprises 22 cards, focusing solely on the Major Arcana, which represents significant life themes, spiritual lessons, and archetypal energies.
One of the distinctive features of this Tarot is the double numbering of the cards. Frederic Lionel provides two separate numbering systems on the cards (in Roman and Arabic numerals). The Roman numbers indicate the particular symbolism of each arcanum, while Arabic numerals indicate the cards representative stages along the Path of Initiation. This numbering does not correspond to the traditional Tarot. On each card, the Arab numbers are on the right-hand side, and the Roman numerals are on the left. The Path of Initiation describes the life-journey of enlightenment starting from the first card, The World to the fulfilment represented by The Magician.
On the other hand, the Numbers characteristic of each arcanum’s symbolism - expressed in Roman numerals in the upper left-hand corner of the foils - contribute, properly understood, to the awareness which the Tarot seeks to promote.
There is one card which stands out and has no numbers at all: The Fool. According to Lionel, The Fool is the first and also the last Arcanum. The Maat, as Lionel prefers to call the card, represents the ‘Truth’.
Most of the cards have the conventional titles (exeptions are The Divine Mistress / The Master instead of High Priestess / Hierophant and Serenity replacing Strength). The artwork is abstract and geometrical.
The images as a composition look like the sigils found in magical manuscripts. They are constructed from various elements: a number of Egyptian images, the eye of Ra, winged disc, Ankh, etc. Also the Chinese Ying-Yang appears on some cards, sometimes deconstructed.
There are many astrological signs, constellations and planets, as well as the magical sigils. These individual elements are all subsumed
into abstract geometrical designs, which geometrically imply associations and links between these symbols.
Another interesting feature of Lionel’s deck is the interpretation of the divinatory meaning of the cards. He gives both positive and negative attributes to each card, therefore reading reversals is not necessary.

I occasionally open up the cards for quality control. Don't worry if your deck is opened!

Please note that:
- the buyer is responsible for any customs and import taxes that may apply. I'm not responsible for delays due to customs.
- damages to the cards that wouldn’t reasonably impact a tarot reading as minor scuff marks, or scratches will not be replaced.
- harsh shuffling and handling of the cards might wear down the gilding.
